Dragons

The dragons of Sevess and the other circlets are an interesting breed. Much like all other life in this system, they were purpose made by Sevesahr, with the intent of keeping potential rivals in check. With creations being given life and free will, there was undoubtedly the potential for those creations to rise against him using the very same arcane magic he was harvesting from the sun.

Powerful, long lived creatures infused with the arcane, capable of feeding and even living off arcane magic. Mostly. They still need material sustenance from time to time, but they can subsist for years off magic provided they are supplied with enough.

It's no small surprise, then, that they have largely ended up on the eyes of the circlets in Sevesahr's absence. A focus for the arcane energy relayed from the sphere, it's a constant buffet for them.

But their bodies are designed to leech arcane energy from creatures and objects, as well. They have one more stomach than humans, purpose made for a few use cases. It comes before the proper stomach and contains no traditional digestive enzymes or acids. It's more of an internal pouch, really, with a connection to the lungs.

Movement of food further into the digestive system requires an intentional continuation of peristalsis from the dragon. There is no automatic reflex until after the first stomach; rather there is the opposite, a suppression and locking of muscle movement while the dragon sleeps to prevent accidents, as it were.

This is necessary for three reasons, those being the primary use cases for the first stomach. Firstly, as it slowly leeches arcane magic, should the dragon devour an arcane wizard whole, they would need to keep them within themselves for several days to fully drain the wizard of their magic. Killing a wizard quickly invariably ends with a Khovian detonation, and so they must be slowly drained of their power to prevent disaster. To prevent a wizard from triggering this themselves, most dragons have a breath weapon that pacifies a creature in some manner, and this can be breathed directly into the stomach to incapacitate an occupant if necessary.

Secondly, this stomach is also often used to protect and transport their young, and should they require an overnight stay for any reason, this suppression of muscle movement once again prevents potential disaster, albeit less of an internal explosion kind, and more of a digesting your own children kind.

And finally, they use the stomach to help transport their hoards on occasion, often long distances. While a few coins falling deeper isn't a problem, it's certainly inconvenient.

A prison and weapon, a place of safety, and a tool depending on the circumstances.

Dragons also possess, as mentioned, a breath weapon. The exact effects of which are determined largely by genealogy. Most have two distinct such breaths, often one geared towards destruction, and another geared towards altering the minds of creatures. Fire, lightning, poison gas, charming fog, addling mist, and more. The combination has no tie to their scale colour, and the combination can be unique to the dragon. (Note, full list of breath weapon types required.) Much like themselves, this ability is a partly arcane, partly physical, with two glands just above the lungs, each one producing a fluid for one of their breath weapons.

Flight is also arcanely influenced, generating lift and speed to assist their wings which would otherwise fail to provide enough on their own for flight.

Their scales are resistant to arcane magic, but notably have no such resistance to will magic. Not that this makes them easy to defeat by any means. (Physical effects of scales, process to make them hold magic perhaps so they can be used in armour?)

They hoard precious metals which can relay and store arcane magic. (Why do precious metals store arcane magic? What are the physical rules of this force?)

I want to include aeternal dragons, maybe they are dragons that have given up arcane magic and are fostering will magic? Might remove some of the ravager abilities if that's the case, and only have them obtainable through rituals or some such. Particularly size.
Willed dragons are any creature that has transformed into a dragon by any means. They do not gain the ability to process arcane magic, and as such, must work especially hard to develop even basic capabilities such as flight, breath weapons, and large size.
